Confirmation of Payee helps you check that the account you're paying belongs to the person or business you expect, making it easier to avoid scams and mistaken payments.
What is Confirmation of Payee?
Confirmation of Payee is an extra security check for first-time payments made through the Unloan app.
When you enter a BSB and account number, it helps confirm that the account details match the information held by the receiving bank. This gives you more confidence that your money is heading to the right place.
Confirmation of Payee can help by:
Providing additional information about the account you're paying
Reducing the risk of sending money to the wrong account
Helping protect you from scams and payment fraud
At Unloan, Confirmation of Payee works alongside NameCheck to give you more information about the account you're paying, so you can make a more informed decision before sending money.
How does it work?
Before you make a first-time payment, Confirmation of Payee checks whether the account is open and compares the account name, BSB and account number you've entered with the information held by the receiving bank.
You'll then see one of the following results. Together with NameCheck, this helps you decide whether you'd like to continue with the payment.
Match
The name you entered matches the account name held by the receiving bank.
Close Match
The name you entered is very similar to the account name held by the receiving bank, but it's not an exact match.
No Match
The name you entered doesn't match the account name held by the receiving bank.
Error
The service couldn't confirm the account details. Double-check the information you've entered before trying again.
Account Closed
The account you're trying to pay is no longer open.
Can Confirmation of Payee stop a payment?
Usually, no.
You'll still be able to proceed with a payment if you receive a Match, Close Match, No Match or Error result. However, we strongly recommend reviewing the result carefully before continuing, especially if the name doesn't match.
The only time a payment will be blocked is when the account has been identified as closed.
Taking a moment to check the result can help you avoid sending money to the wrong account or becoming the target of a scam.
Can someone see my name through Confirmation of Payee?
Your privacy is important.
Your name is only shown if the payer enters details that return a Match result. If the details entered don't match, your name won't be displayed.
What's the difference between Confirmation of Payee and NameCheck?
Confirmation of Payee and NameCheck work together to help you feel more confident about who you're paying.
Confirmation of Payee
Checks whether the account name you entered matches the account details held by the receiving bank.
NameCheck
Analyses the payment details you've entered and indicates whether they appear consistent with the person or business you're intending to pay.
Using both services together gives you extra information before making a first-time payment.
My account number won't fit in the account number field
If the account number you're entering is longer than the character limit and starts with one or more zeros, try removing the leading zeros and re-entering the account number.
Before proceeding, always double-check that the account details are correct.
